Gas Installers Cape Town - LPG gas hob connection being made by a registered gas installer

Find gas installers in Cape Town and compare quotes for LPG work on your home or business. Hobs, stoves, geysers, fireplaces, braais, heaters, gas lines, cylinder installations, repairs, leak detection and certificates of compliance, all from registered local installers.

Describe the job once instead of phoning five installers and explaining it five times. Registered installers covering your suburb come back to you directly with their own prices, and you compare them yourself.

Tell us the appliance, the property and your suburb. That is usually enough for an installer to price the work.

These are indicative Cape Town ranges, not a quotation. Distance from the cylinder to the appliance, whether pipework can be surface-run or has to be chased into walls, cylinder size, the age of an existing installation and access all move the number materially.

Choosing a Gas Installer

  • Ask for the registration number. Anyone issuing a certificate of conformity has to be an authorised person registered with the LP Gas Safety Association of Southern Africa. Ask for the number and check that the card has not expired.
  • Confirm the CoC is included. On new work it usually is. On repairs and alterations it is often quoted separately, which is where two quotes stop being comparable.
  • Check what pipework is priced. A quote assuming a two-metre surface run and one assuming a chased fifteen-metre run to the other side of the house are not the same job.
  • Ask who supplies the appliance. Installers often price labour only, and the hob, geyser or fireplace is your purchase.
  • Get the cylinder arrangement in writing. Cylinder size, whether a changeover valve is included, and where the cylinder will physically stand.
  • Ask about making good. Chasing walls for pipework leaves plaster and paint work behind. Some installers include it, most do not.

Gas in Cape Town Homes

  • Load shedding drove the demand. Gas hobs and gas geysers moved from a nice-to-have to a default in a lot of Cape Town homes, and much of the installed base is now five to ten years old and due for its first real service.
  • Coastal corrosion is real. Along the Atlantic Seaboard, Blouberg and the False Bay coast, salt attacks regulators, cylinder valves and external copper faster than it does inland in Durbanville or Brackenfell.
  • Older flats and complexes complicate cylinder placement. Where the cylinder can legally stand is often the deciding factor in what is possible in the City Bowl, Sea Point and Green Point, not the appliance you want.
  • Winter is geyser season. Gas geyser repair and servicing enquiries climb sharply from May, which is exactly when installers are busiest and lead times stretch.
  • Sales trigger certificates. Most gas certificate enquiries come from a conveyancer's checklist rather than from the owner deciding to have one done.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a gas installation cost in Cape Town?

A hob connected to an existing line commonly runs R1,600 to R3,200, a full hob installation with a cylinder R4,500 to R9,500, and a gas geyser installation R3,800 to R8,500 excluding the unit. A residential certificate of conformity is usually R950 to R2,200. These are indicative ranges rather than quotations.

Do you do the gas installation yourselves?

No. Gas Installers Cape Town is a free quote service. Independent registered gas installers do the work, quote you directly and carry their own registration, equipment and insurance.

How many quotes will I get?

Up to five, from gas installers covering your area. You compare them yourself and appoint whoever you prefer, or nobody.

Does it cost anything to use this service?

No. Requesting quotes is free and there is no obligation to appoint anyone. Your contract is with whichever installer you choose, and the price you agree is between the two of you.

Do I need a certificate for a gas installation?

A certificate of conformity is issued by a registered installer for new installations, alterations and, in practice, on change of ownership of a property with a fixed gas installation. Your conveyancer will confirm what is required for a specific transfer.

How long does a gas installation take?

A straightforward hob or stove connection is usually a few hours. A gas geyser with a new line typically takes most of a day. Multi-point installations and commercial kitchens run over several days, and pipework chased into walls adds a plastering and painting trade behind it.

What information do installers need to quote?

Your suburb, what appliance is involved, whether there is an existing gas installation, and roughly how far the cylinder position is from the appliance. Photographs of the space help a lot, and for a certificate, how many gas points the property has.

How quickly do quotes come back?

Usually within one to two working days for residential work. Commercial installations often need a site visit before an installer will price, which adds a few days.

Gas Installers Cape Town is a free quote-matching service. The gas work is carried out by the independent registered installers that quote you, and your contract is with the installer you appoint. Ask each installer for their registration and insurance details before appointing anyone.
